Cllr Mickey Coogan, Ballynahinch

Mickey Coogan is a 43 yr old father of three children who lives in Ballynahinch.

A founding member of the Betsy Gray Sinn Féin Cumann, Mickey was first elected to Down District Council in May 2005. In the past six years he has held several key positions on Council, including Chairperson of the Policy and Resources Committee, The Culture and Economic Development Committee, The Health Committee and the Recreation and Community Services' Committee.

Mickey has also sat on various other council committees and he represented Down Council on several external bodies including the SEELB, The Down District Policing Partnership, The Down Community Safety Partnership, Citizens Advice, East Border Region Committee and the Down Rural Area Partnership.

Mickey is currently the Chairperson of the Down District Community Safety Partnership and over the past year has worked with community groups in Newcastle, Downpatrick, Crossgar and Ballynahinch to implement Action Plans through interagency working and tackling issues around antisocial behaviour and fear of crime.

Mickey has also worked to secure the upgrade of the Sewerage Treatment Works in Ballynahinch and Drumaness; the provision of a Household Recycling Centre in Ballynahinch and new and enhanced leisure facilities in Ballynahinch, Saintfield, Castlewellan and NewcastleEmail: michael.coogan@downdc.gov.uk
